Book Collection:
The Brewster Public Library maintains a comprehensive book collection for adults, young adults and children. The information needs and recreational needs of library patrons are met with a book collection which includes bestsellers, large print books, a local author collection, a parenting collection, and books for speakers of other languages. Books not in the library may be requested from other libraries.
Video collection:
The library has an extensive collection of over 2000 videos for patrons of all ages. Feature films as well as instructional and educational videos are available for one-week loan.
Recorded Books:
Recorded books on cassette and CD are available for children and adults. The collection is extensive and includes both fiction and nonfiction titles as well as abridged and unabridged titles.
Music CDs
Classical, contemporary, folk, jazz and popular music are included in this collection. There is also a variety of music CDs appropriate for children of all ages. This collection circulates for 4 weeks
Local History Collection:
Community members interested in learning about their family history or to learn more about the history of Brewster Village, Town of Southeast and surrounding towns can find a can find a treasure-trove of information in Brewster Public Library’s Local History Collection. The collection is located in the May Ratchford Room on the lower level of the library and contains over 270 titles including books, pamphlets, maps, and brochures of local interest.
Some notable titles in the collection are: Brewster the Years, 1848-1948: History and Folklore compiled and edited by Laura Howe, Laura D. Bailey, Mabel Addis and Henry H. Wells. Town of Southeast 1788-1988 History of Putnam County by William S. Pelletreau Fanny Crosby’s Life Story by Fanny Crosby The Fabulous showman; the life and times of P.T Barnum by Irving Wallace The Iron Horse by Henry B. Comstack

The Brewster Standard Newspaper from 1870-1982, which covered Brewster and surrounding areas, is available in microfilm and in bound volumes.
Those wishing to use materials in the local history room need to sign in at the Circulation. Desk.
If you are cleaning out your attic or basement and find old material about Brewster, Southeast and surrounding areas, please don’t throw it out. Contact the library, The Southeast Museum or the Putnam Historians Office. The library is especially interested in acquiring copies of Brewster High School and St Lawrence O’toole yearbooks.
